Cupcake Challenge #1: Sara Sara Cupcakes

If you follow me on Twitter (and why wouldn’t you?), then you know Casey & I had a nice little cupcake challenge this weekend. Over 6 months ago, my sweet, sweet Casey made a very bold statement: “Cupcake place 1 is better than Cupcake place 2.” I vehemently disagreed. How we made it past this pivotal moment, I’ll never know. What we decided to do (and then we waited 6 months to actually do it) was to test the best of the best cupcakes in Oklahoma City. This, my friends, is the story of how Casey and Marek got fat.

Upon arriving at our first destination, Sara Sara Cupcakes, Casey and I had the biggest decision of all to make – which cupcake did we want? With so many options, we went with something safe: The Sheriff. It’s a chocolate cupcake, vanilla cream filling, ganache on top. What’s not to love? We also ordered a glass of milk. What’s great is that the glasses come chilled and the milk comes in either white, chocolate and strawberry. God bless the people who like strawberry milk. I don’t understand you. I never will.

Here are my thoughts. You can never go wrong with chocolate ganache. It’s so incredibly tasty.¬†I would have loved for the cupcake to be a little richer – it was more of a lighter chocolate flavor with a touch of cinnamon. I prefer my chocolate dark (like I like my men. Just kidding, Casey.). It’s also a very dense cupcake. Some people love it, some people prefer it to be fluffy (like I like my men. Just kidding, Casey.).

Also, in case you were wondering, Sara Sara doesn’t have babies for order. Our friends Jenn & Ryan brought their beautiful baby girl to meet us for cupcakes. They also let us in on the fact that the Judge Joe Cannon (banana cupcake with butter cream¬†frosting and shaved snickers bar) was the way to go.

Sara Sara Cupcakes accepts the Keep It Local card. Check out the full menu here.

  1. I’ve tried several places here in town and this is my favorite cupcake establishment. I recommend The Destin (key lime), the Sir Elton John (cherry cheesecake), or the apricot ricotta. All so very tasty!
